The Most Awkward Scholarship Luncheon EVER!

Let me first say that I sincerely appreciate LULAC'S generosity... They gave me a scholarship today during their annual (apparently meaning twice a year) banquet. And the problem didn't lie with me. I ended up taking my dad to the banquet, because my mom didn't have time to take a shower (instead distracted by multiple events, like ironing clothes and keeping my brother in line). Well my dad is Republican; the organization is LULAC. Enough said. Multiple awkward moments: when we first said Hi (and that was about it), when the keynote speaker announced that he moved to the US to go to college (and said to never forget your country, problem was "country" was left ambigious), and when my dad started talking about personal responsibility. First, my dad consistently says that people must thank the US for their success (as well as mom, dad, abuela etc...), so imagine his surprise when "country" was ambiguous. Then the president of my council shut him up, right when he was talking about US benefits. Hmm... Regardless, I enjoyed the luncheon, primarily because it was free food, and a nice little diversion (a three hour one). So thanks LULAC, and keep pissing off my dad! Trust me, I enjoy it :).
